The Falconets have commenced training in Abuja, in preparation for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals qualifiers against Sierra Leone.

The Falconets will face their Sierra Leonean counterpart in the qualifiers for next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in Canada.

Nigeria hosts the first leg game at the Abuja National Stadium on October 26.

The Head Coach of the Falconets, Peter Dedevbo told newsmen that the team did not break camp for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations because of the short time before the qualifier.

“Usually, we would have suspended training during the celebration, but we have so little time on our hands.

“We play Sierra Leone in the first-leg of the qualifiers next weekend and so we cannot afford the luxury of celebrating because there is a lot at stake.

“However, we didn’t train in the morning of Tuesday so as to allow about two officials and three players, who are Muslims the time to pray and celebrate for a short while,” he said.

Dedevbo said that he had received video tapes of matches involving the Sierra Leonean team from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and would use them to prepare adequately for the qualifier.

“We have been training very hard and I am happy with the progress of the girls so far.

“We will also spend some time looking at the tapes so as to put finishing touches to our preparations for the game,” he said.

The Falconets will play the second leg game in Freetown on November 9.
