Senators’ Forum Moves To Resolve PDP Crisis
Incensed by the lingering crisis in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a body of serving and non-serving Senators of Nigeria under the aegis of Senators Forum have commenced mediatory talke with stakeholders to resolve the impasse.
The Tide spoke with the Deputy Chairman of the forum, Senator John Brambaifa who led the delegation on a fact finding mission to the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at Government House, Port Harcourt.
Senator Brambaifa said the purpose of their visit was purely for the forum to hear his (Amaechi’s) own side of the story and what he thinks went wrong with the Governors’ Forum, leading to the emergence of a new PDP.
He explained that the forum decided to intervene because the polity was being heated up and the interest of the country was in jeopardy, stressing that the forum had visited the Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang and got his views on the issues.
Senator Brambaifa hinted that Governor Amaechi explained all that has gone wrong between himself, the president, the Governors’ forum and Jonah Jang.
“Amaechi thinks that there is lack of honesty in the leadership, you agree to do one thing but you do another thing. He thinks that was responsible for what is happening in the country today”, he stated.
He disclosed that Amaechi assured them of his readiness to cooperate in proffering solution to the crisis and restoration of peace.
According to him, “we were happy that the Governor received us and expressed confidence in the ability of the Senators Forum to find peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Brambaifa also hinted that the body will visit Bamanga Turkur, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, Niger state Governor Babangida Aliyu and President Goodluck Jonathan in the search for peace.
He lamented the deteriorating political situation in the country as the crisis has affected the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.
He assured that the forum would not take sides but look at the options available to resolve the issues and bring everybody back on track in the national interest.
