Sales Girl, 26, Docked For Alleged Theft
The Police in Enugu
State last Thursday arraigned one, Precious Nkume, 26, a sales girl at Ogbete Main Market, before an Enugu Magistrates Court for alleged theft.
Nkume was arraigned for allegedly stealing N2,840,880 from her employer, Ikenna Nwafor.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Ajiogwu, told the court that Nwafor reported the matter to the Central Police Station on May 27.
Ajiogwu told the court that Nkume was given N2,840,880 to deposit in a commercial bank at Okpara Avenue.
He said the accused left for the bank and after an hour, she called Nwafor and told him that she was attacked by armed robbers in the bank and added that the money had been stolen.
He told the court that Nwafor immediately went to the bank and made enquiry but found out that there was no such attack as she claimed.
The prosecutor told the court that he was not with the complete statement of the complainant and pleaded with the court to give him time to tender the full statement.
The counsel to the accused, Mr Felix Ezike, did not object to the plea, but asked the court to grant the accused bail.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Ngozi Ideani, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400,000 and one surety in like sum.
She also ordered the surety to deposit his or her Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the matter to Sept. 23.
