RSG To Engage 300 Graduates …Set To Unveil Centenary Monument At GreaterPH
The Rivers State Government has disclosed plans to engage 300 graduates in professional courses such as engineering , accountancy, architecture among others on a special development scheme.
The plan was made public by the Commissioner for Employment and Empowerment Generation, Dr Ipalibo Harry last Wednesday after the state executive council meeting in Government House in Port Harcourt.
According to Dr Harry, the professional graduates would be recruited from different sectors and would be engaged for two years.
Dr Harry disclosed that this gesture would further address unemployment and expose the graduates to practical experience in their various specialisations.
Said he, the scheme would cover several areas of study because it would offer a whole lot of employment, for example, engineering graduates would be engaged in industrial experience”.
Throwing more light on the scheme, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari added that the graduates would be paid stipends so that, ‘Rivers people are adequately prepared for the labour market”.
She also disclosed plans by the state government to erect a centenary monument in the Greater Port Harcourt area. The monument she further explained would be in the form of a park.
Semenitari said the state executive council had approved the set up of a centenary Park’ and that soon bidding would open with adverts for designs from the public.
The park according to her, would mark the 100 years of Port Harcourt, hence, entries for bidding would be open to all those interested all over the world.
She also spoke on efforts made by the state government to tackle flooding in the city and plan to repair part of the bad spots at the Eleme Junction, adding, “ we are going to have some discomfort with the construction of Trans-Amadi Road…so that we can have good roads that would enable us move around smoothly”.
