Remodelling Work Resumes At PH Airport
The remodelling work
at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, which stopped some weeks ago, has resumed, bringing back hope that the exercise may be completed within the lifespan of the present administration.
The workers of the contracting firm project site were seen bringing materials and engaged in different aspects of the work.
The Tide had earlier reported that the work was put on hold following non-release of funds to the contracting firm that led to vacating the site.
A Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) source disclosed that the federal government had made another payment to the contractor and it shows that they are determined to complete the Port Harcourt International Airport.
It would be recalled that the Port Harcourt Airport is among the 11 airports that are undergoing remodelling exercise by the federal government under the transformation agenda.
Recently, the Enugu Airport whose contract was awarded the same time with Port Harcourt had been completed and commissioned by the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and had commenced international and local flight operations.
A business operator at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Mrs Stella Enyio, urged the contractor handling the project to redouble his efforts in ensuring that the work was completed this year.
She lamented the inconveniences passengers and airport users are passing through as a result of the ongoing work while advising FAAN to continue to monitor the project to ensure it meets specifications.
The Regional General Manager of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for South-South/South East, Mrs Ebele Okoye had urged airport users to be patient as the project would soon be completed.
Mrs Okoye said this when the league of Aviation/Airport Correspondents (LAAC), Port Harcourt chapter met with her for the first time since assumption of office in October last year.
The Regional Manager explained that the delay in completion of the project was due to logistics problem which was beyond FAAN, adding that the challenge was over and the remodelling would be concluded before the end of the year.
