Police Arraign Three Over N4.7m Fraud
The police last
Thursday arraigned three persons, Adekunle Suraju, 28, Love Okotie, 33, and Olatunbosun Esther, 28, in an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ade Adebusuyi, told the court that the accused conspired among themselves to commit felony by obtaining money under false pretence.
Adebusuyi said the accused allegedly obtained N4,750,000 from one Okamgba Kelechi and converted it to their personal use.
The prosecutor said that one of the accused was found in possession of one IBM Thinkpat Laptop suspected to have been stolen on Sept. 4 at about 9:30 p.m. at the Sawmill Area of Ibadan.
He said the offence was committed sometime in Aug. at the Sawmill area of Ibadan.
Adebusuyi said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 419, 430 (1) 516 and 383, and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Vol. 11, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, and Chief Magistrate Fatima Badrudeen granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties each in like sum.
Badrudeen said one of the sureties must have landed property with Certificate of Occupancy, while the second sureties must present three years’ tax clearance certificate and identification.
She adjourned the case to Oct. 10.
