The Public Relations Of
ficer, Festac Business Unit of PHCN, Mrs. Chinlelo Amah, has appealed to residents and community leaders to safeguard power facilities against vandalism.
Amah told journalists in Lagos that this became necessary in view of the alarming rate at which PHCN installations were being vandalised on daily basis.
She said that vandalism of PHCN equipment was worrisome and was frustrating activities of the unit.
“Our installation at Union Bank Estate in Satellite Town was vandalised recently. Change-over and gear switches were removed from the transformer.
“This singular act has thrown a whole estate into blackout for many days,” Amah said.
She said that if the facilities were well protected by the residents, the vandals would find it difficult to vandalise, “but nobody was protecting them”.
Amah said that a suspected vandal was arrested in connection with the incident and handed over to security agents for prosecution.
She called on residents to be vigilant and watch over power installations in their communities.
“PHCN installations in your area were installed to boost generation cum distribution of electricity supply.
“I implore all and sundry to be on guard and help to protect PHCN equipment in your area,” Amah said.
