NITDA Publishes Standards For Call Centres, Soon
The Chief Administrative
Officer of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Mr Soji Litan on Tuesday said that the agency would soon publish standards for call centres in the country.
Litan said at a forum organised by the Association of Outsourcing Professionals of Nigeria (AOPN) in Lagos, that the model for call centres would ensure uniformity.
“NITDA is working on a standard model for potential and existing call centre business owners, to create uniformity and assist the regulatory agencies to perform their duties.
“What the standard will do is to bring about uniformity in the sector, that is, if you want to run a call centre business, the right infrastructure should be put in place, and so on.
“Thus, not just any inexperienced person will delve into the venture and we will be able to monitor the activities.
“We have about 300 rural information technology centres scattered across the nation, to enable people in the rural areas access the internet, without having to travel to the city.
“We have also completed the software testing laboratory, and the hardware testing laboratory is on the way,” Litan said.
He said that the newly-established Nigerian Association of Information Technology Enabled Outsourcing Companies (NAITEOC) would boost the information technology sector through outsourcing professionals.
Earlier, the Treasurer of AOPN, Mrs Mope Abudu,said that the purpose of the event was for outsourcing agencies to bare their minds on challenges facing the industry.
According to her, the outsourcing industry is still a growing sector that needed immense support from the government and regulatory agencies.
She said that adequate support for the outsourcing industry through AOPN would generate more employment and revenue for the nation through foreign direct investment, in the form of human capital.
Abudu also said that it would also broaden the information technology and other sectors, by exploring the untapped opportunities there.
The President of the Association, Mr Obiora Madu, tcalled on the Federal Government to hasten the implementation of the Nigeria Outsourcing Policy, to boost the upcoming industry.
