Nigeria Call-Up Has Helped Ameobi – Pardew

Newcastle United boss
Alan Pardew has credited Shola Ameobi’s good form to being called up to the Nigeria national team.
Ameobi came on as a second half substitute on Wednesday  to score for Newcastle in their 2-0 Capital One Cup win over Morecambe.
With Ameobi possibly in line to play for Nigeria in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil should they qualify, club manager Pardew believes that this has a lot to do with his good form for the club.
“He’s actually looked the best I have seen him in this pre-season,” Pardew told Tidesports source.
“I think the Nigeria selection has actually given him a boost,  I can see that in his eyes.
“He is looking forward to the international coming up, and I think that’s benefited us.
“Sometimes we moan about that (international call-ups), but this time it’s been a bit of a lift for him and his confidence and everything. He was terrific in the second half,” Pardew added.
Nigeria faces Malawi in a World Cup qualifier on September 7 in Calabar.
