Navy Advises Prefects To Be Role Models

The Nigerian
Navy Director of Education, Commodore Amatere Kpou, has advised students of the Nigerian Navy secondary schools to be of good behaviour at all times.
Kpou gave the advice in Port Harcourt at the second edition of leadership workshop organised for the newly appointed prefects of  the  schools.
Represented by Commodore Aminu Almu, the command’s Education Officer of Nigerian Navy Secondary Schools, Kpou said the workshop was aimed at making the prefects effective leaders.
The director called on the students to use the opportunity of the training to imbibe humility and good conduct that would  make them role models worthy of emulation in the society.
“You must understand that a good leader is not someone who sits on his high horse barking down orders to his sub-ordinates, rather, a good leader shows the way. “He bears the burden of others and earns the cooperation, respect and obedience of his colleagues and junior ones accordingly,” he said.
The director stressed the need for them to obey the rules and regulations of the school, in addition to being time conscious and studying hard.
“Academic excellence in the Nigerian Navy Secondary School is a culture that you must imbibe; therefore to whom much is given, much is expected,” he said.
Capt. Elizabeth Okoh, the Commandant of the Navy Secondary School Port Harcourt, urged the students to learn the skills of being good leaders.
Represented by Lt.-Cdr. Lydia Ayeni, the Deputy Commandant, Okoh urged them to be humble to the school authorities and other students.
Respondent, Master Daniel Obasi applauded the Directorate of Naval Education (DNED) for organising the workshop and urges the director  to continue with the efforts aimed at instilling good conduct in them as future leaders.
