Medical Lab Council Develops 5-Year Plan
The Medical and Labo
ratory Science Council of Nigeria has developed a five- year strategic plan to achieve its set mandate.
The Registrar, Prof Anthony Emeribe, said at a forum in Abuja last Sunday that the council needed a least N1 billion to actualise its plan in various states of the federation.
He said “In line with the vision of council we have developed a five-year strategic plan and followed it up with an implementation plan for year one commencing from 2014 through 15 areas of council regulatory services. “With the strategic plan we have done, we are looking forward to each year, be able to meet up those 15 target areas; we need resources of at least N1 billion to be able to meet up in the various states of this country.
“Annually, we require nothing less than N1 billion to N1.5 billion.“
The registrar said one of the plans included enrolling every laboratory into the External Quality Assessment Programme (EQA).
He added that other strategic plans included continued quality improvement and inspection of laboratories.
Emeribe noted that completion of the council’s ultra-modern headquarters in Durumi area of the FCT would help the council carry out its mandate more effectively.
He said that the first phase of the facility would be completed this year.
