LASG Bans Molue Buses
The Lagos State Govern
ment has banned the operators of 911 buses, popularly called ‘Molue‘, from crossing the Third Mainland, Eko and Carter Bridges to the Lagos Island.
The restriction order, which is contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mrs Bola Ajao also affected the Lagos Central Business District.
The statement, a copy of which was made available to our correspondant in Lagos, said the decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting between the state government and the Lagos Urban Bus Owners Association of Nigeria (LUBON), operators of the buses, last Wednesday.
“Although the new directive was effective since 19th of August, 2012, but Lagos State believes in enlightenment before enforcement and therefore decided to shift the enforcement to 4th of this month.
“The officials of the LASTMA have been mandated to ensure strict compliance and impound any vehicle after Sept. 4, 2013 that is found to have flouted the directive.”
It said that the 911 operators could perform their operations in any part of the state aside from the restricted areas.
“The Lagos State Government had not banned the operations of Molue in the state, but rather it has restricted their operations to areas like Orile, Iyana Ipaja, Mile 2, Mile 12 and Agege.
“The prohibited routes include Iddo, Ebute Ero, Apongbon, Obalende, Idumota, and CMS, among others.”
The statement, which urged operators to voluntarily comply with the new directives, called for cooperation and support of all stakeholders.
Mr Taofeek Adesina, the leader of LUBON, commended the government for restoring sanity in the state, pledging that his members would comply with the new order.
