Imbibe Missionary Culture, OPM Tasks Churches
Shepherds of the Christian Church in Nigeria have again been challenged to embrace the ideals of missionary services and eschew the now increasing tendency for material acquisition.
General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere threw up the challenge yesterday in Port Harcourt, while unveiling the first ever privately-owned free nursery and primary school in the state.
The institution was embarked upon by the OPM, according to the General Overseer, to cater for the educational needs of the down-trodden who see the church as their home.
The Tide also learnt that the church has for the past one year, operated a free restaurant in Port Harcourt, computer centres at Elele prison and Bundu communities, free hospital in Abia State amongst others.
Addressing newsmen during the commissioning ceremony, the OPM facilitator decried the practice among wealthy pastors to build schools with part of proceeds of offering of the poor, only to peg school fees to meet only the elitist challenges of their pockets.
Describing same as total disservice to Christendom, the OPM boss said what was required for the church was to rekindle the missionary spirit of spreading the gospel, giving hope to the less-privileged and offering spiritual succour to the people.
He said that the school was open to all less-privileged pupils in the society, irrespective of religious denominations.
According to him, the vision was to help the down-trodden in the society as well as bring back the lost glory of Christianity, pointing out that 20 pupils would be admitted per class in every academic session.
Head teacher of the school, Mrs Obiageli James said that the standard was in line with Montessori principles, assuring that the standard would not be compromised.
She urged families to avail themselves of the opportunities as the school was open to all members of the public.
