As the insight to In
formation and Communications Technology (ICT) continues to soar high, students in Rivers State have called for a well organised ICT competition among students in the state.
Some secondary school students who spoke with our reporter Tuesday said the competition if considered, will discover some budding talents in the state.
They said if competition in other areas like sports can aid in discovering new talents, that same magic can also happen in the ICT sector. Miss Belief Rawlings, a senior secondary school student explained that such opportunities will act as brain-challenger and training ground as well.
She noted that ICT was gradually taking centre stage of every sector of the economy and should be made available for everyone.
Rawlings, maintained that competition among students in the 23 local government councils of the state will also enhance its appreciation at the rural areas.
Also speaking, Emeka Robinson Amadi, who is a level 200 student of the Rivers State Polytechnic Bori, said that the call for ICT competition should be considered mandatory and urgent.
He described as appalling a situation where some students still find it difficult to use computer mouse.
Amadi regretted how those in authority are only interested to play politics with every given opportunity.
Another respondent, Precious Opara, pushed for trained ICT teachers in the new model primary and secondary schools, if the state government hopes to make a mark in the ICT world.
The final year student of the state University of Science and Technology noted that it would amount to wasted venture if untrained ICT teachers are allowed to manage the ICT departments of the schools in the state.
