Guard Arraigned For Allegedly Defrauding Home Seekers

seph Ebiyinka has  been arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate Court in Lagos, charged with defrauding some people seeking for accommodation.
Ebiyinka, 34, who resides at No 24 Salvador Street, African Lane, Lekki, is facing a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining under false pretence.
The accused was said to have  received the sum of about N2.4 million from these accommodation seekers who were made to believe    that Ebiyinka could provide  accommodation for them.
The prosecutor  Sergent Daniel Ighodalo said that Ebiyinka and one of his comrades in crime who is at large committed the offences sometime between February  and August 2013 at Lekki phase one in Lagos.
Ighodalo said that the accused and his accomplice  presented themselves as caretake and agent  of the property at No. 24 Salvador Street, African lane, Lekki, in order to commit the crimes.
He said that several amounts were collected by the accused for rents for one year from the various accommodation seekers, including Mr. Chima/Shakei the complainant,  to the tune of N2.4  million.
The prosecutor said that the offences committed, contravened section 409 and 312(2) of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011, but the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Section  312 provides that a person who obtains under false pretences is guilty of a felony and liable  to in prisonment for   15 years.
The magistrate, Mrs O.M. Ajayi granted  the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like  sum and has adjourned the case to September 27 for mention.
