The Corps Marshal, Fed
eral Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Osita Chidoka, has inaugurated 100 housing units for its staff in Gombe State .
The Project Coordinator of the FRSC Housing Scheme, Mr Ebenezer Adebisi, who made the disclosure last Sunday, said that the houses comprised two and three bedroom flats.
He said that Chidoka used the opportunity to inaugurate some street lights and zebra crossing within Gombe metropolis as part of efforts to ensure free flow of traffic in the state.
Adebisi, an Assistant Corps Commander, noted that housing was a critical component in the FRSC’s staff welfare programme.
He assured that the scheme would deliver over 2000 units to the operatives nationwide between now and 2015, adding that 3000 plots of land had been acquired for the project.
“The scheme started less than two years ago, we want to deliver nothing less than 2000 housing units under the first phase between when we started and 2015.
“So far, we have delivered over 300 units and by the fourth quarter of 2013, we would have delivered over 700 units,’’ he said.
Adebisi said that 44 units had been delivered at Gwagwalada, while efforts were being made to deliver another 200 units at Zuba, to accommodate staff in the FCT and its environs.
He also said that by the fourth quarter of 2013, 125 units would be inaugurated in Enugu.
According to him, 150 of 500 housing units meant for the Lagos axis will be inaugurated in the first quarter of 2014, to take care of staff in the South-West region.
Adebisi said that the commission was implementing the project in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank and other commercial banks under the Private Public Partnership (PPP) agreement.
