Enugu Tops In TB, Leprosy Reduction

The German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Relief Association last Tuesday said Enugu State was best in the reduction of tuberculosis and leprosy prevalence in the country.
The medical adviser of the association, Mr Tony Meka, said this in Enugu, while presenting a Hilux van to the state Ministry of Health.
Meka said that the state, after series of assessments conducted, was ranked best among five states, including Kebbi, Kaduna, Lagos and Ekiti, implementing the association’s programmes.
“My organisation has worked with the state for a very long time and going by all the criteria that we have used, Enugu State came out tops among the five states,” he said.
The state Commissioner for Health,Dr George while receiving the vehicle, said that the Its monitoring and evaluation performance methods to rate the state.
Eze said that the vehicle would enable the state to reach out for the treatment of tuberculosis and leprosy at different points where the centres were located.
The state programme officer, Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control, Dr Ifeanyi Agujiogwu, said that the vehicle would assist in meeting the treatment needs of tuberculosis and leprosy patients.
The e representative of Global Fund, Dr John Adewa  said that the Association for Reproductive and Family Health was the principal recipient of the fund for implementation of TB programmes in Nigeria.
