Electricity consumers
in four states are owing the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company over N21 billion, Mohammed Idris, the company’s Managing Director, has said.
Idris said this during a chat with newsmen in Kaduna.
He identified the four states as Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi
The Managing Director said that some Federal Government agencies, including the military, police and other paramilitary organisations were among the highest debtors.
He said that a breakdown showed that residential customers in the zone owed the company N14.8 billion, while the Nigeria Army had defaulted to the tune of N3.1billion.
Idris said that federal agencies in the zone owed the company N2.8 billion, while state and local governments, industries, the police and commercial consumers accounted for the balance of over N1billion
The managing director decried the incessant cases of vandalism of PHCN installations in the zone and described the situation as disheartening.
He said the company lost N100 million worth of properties to activities of vandals in 100 distribution substations in the zone.
Idris said that the company was also experiencing paucity of funds as it had not received any allocation for 2013 from the Federal Government.
He implored the debtors to pay up or have their electricity supply disconnected.
The general manager assured customers in the zone of steady electricity supply in the next six months.
“In the next six months, the result of our supply will be different.
“For customers getting a minimum of 20 hours supply, we intend to make sure those customers have uninterrupted supply.
“If you are getting 10 hours, you will get 15 hours, if you are getting five hours you will get 10 hours of electricity supply.’’
He said more than 200 megawatts of electricity would be added into the system as soon as work was completed on the various power projects in the area.
