Charming  duo, Gedony
Ekpata and Doris Adaugo Uche last week in Port Harcourt emerged the faces of Port Harcourt’s International Fashion Week, christened Native & Vogue.
The 23-year old Ekpata and 21 year-old Adaugo beat other nine models to win the male and female categories, respectively during the unveiling ceremony held at the Southern Star Hotel, Port Harcourt.
Both models smiled home with a cheque of N500,000 each and would adorn all materials relating to the Native & Vogue Fashion Week slated for Port Harcourt later this month. They, according to the organisers, would also benefit from a stint at an international modeling outfit in South Africa.
An elected Gedony Ekpata’s manager, Ngozi Anyiam applauded the ceremony and commended the winners, describing them as worthy ambassadors.
“I am so, so proud of Gedony today. He has demonstrated that our little efforts are not in vain and his victory would fire up interests among his peers and those that are still skeptical about modeling as a career,” said the manager.
Meanwhile, throwing more light on the International fashion week being powered by Rivers State Government in partnership with Neo-mantra, Buno Creazioni (Frank Oshodi), Allure (Vanguard) and Studio 24, Rivers Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari said that Native & Vogue is an event by the present administration  to relaunch Port Harcourt as the Garden City and hub of the creative industry.
She said that the event is tailored to relaunch what she called the ‘Rivers State Brand,’ stating that “our values were eroded before the coming of the Rotimi Amaechi administration in 2007.”
She further stated that Governor Amaechi remained committed to redesigning the state as a plce to live work and recreate.
According to her, the fashion week is part of innovation by government to thrust the city nad state as a brand, showcase the veracity of the slogan. ‘Rivers of opportunities and possibilities.’
The week which involves modeling, fashion and designing and other creative enterprises will create and encourage new economies where young people  can channel their energy.
It is billed to be an annual event that will draw the world to Port Harcourt.
