Court Convicts Mechanic For Stealing Handbag
An Abuja Magistrate
Court recently sentenced a mechanic, Mohammed Abdul of Kado village, Abuja, to 30 days imprisonment for stealing a female handbag at the Gwarimpa General Hospital.
The 27-year-old mechanic was arraigned before the court on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.
The Magistrate, Mr Zubairu Mohammed, sentenced the convict to 30 days for the first charge of trespass, with an option of two thousand naira fine.
Abdul was also sentenced to additional 30 days on the second charge of theft, without an option of fine.
The magistrate said that the two sentences would, however, run concurrently.
“The accused is, hereby, sentenced to 30 days imprisonment for trespass with an option for him to pay two thousand naira fine.
“He is similarly, sentenced to 30 days imprisonment for the crime of theft, without an option of fine and the two jail terms shall run concurrently,’’ Mohammed said.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Simon Emmanuel, said that John Abuwu, the Chief Security Officer of Gwarimpa General Hospital, reported the case at the Life Camp Police Station on Aug. 27.
The prosecutor said that the convict broke into the female ward of the hospital and stole the handbag, belonging to a patient who was on admission.
Emmanuel said that security operatives attached to the hospital arrested the convict and brought him to the police station where he, upon interrogation, confessed to the crime.
