The construction
of 25,000 metric-tonne silo in Yola has reached 85.78 per cent completion, Dr Walia Hamman, state Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, says.
Hamman told newsmen in Yola that the silo is part of the national food security programme.
“As at June 2013, the construction of the Yola silo has reached 85.78 per cent completion.
“Contract for the project was awarded on Sept. 18, 2008,” Hamman said.
He said one of the major problems stalling work on the project, according to the contractor, was non-payment of outstanding money.
He said the contractor had assured government that before the end of 2013 the project would be completed and the storage of grains would commence fully.
He said the major grains to be stored in the silos included maize, sorghum and rice.
