Confed Cup: Mazembe Camps In Accra For Malien
TP Mazembe has set up a
15-day training camp in Accra (Ghana) to prepare for the semi final of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup.
The DR Congo giants are due to face Stade Malien of Mali in the first leg of the last four next Saturday, in Bamako.
Les Corbeaux travelled to Accra immediately after their ultimate Group B fixture against Moroccan side FUS Rabat, which they lost 0-2 in Rabat last weekend. Mazembe finished tops of Group B with 10 points, with CA Bizertin (8 points), FUS Rabat (8 points) and Entente Setif (6 points) in that order.
The four-time African champions pitched camp in the Ghanaian capital for two weeks, during which they will test their readiness with friendlies against local sides.
Head Coach Patrice Carteron is hoping the Accra camp will put the team in the best shape. before traveling to Bamako for the clash against the 2009 winners.
“We need about 15 days to prepare for our next game. We have to be more defensive and be realistic in attack too. There are many lessons to be learned and we have to develop a strategy and a team capable of playing at the semis,” Carteron told the club’s website.
It is the second time the Congolese will be holding a training camp in Accra after a similar exercise before the group phase.
Mazembe is hoping to add the Confederation Cup title to their trophy cabinet after the CAF Champions League (1967, 1968, 2009 and 2010) and the defunct CAF Cup Winners’ Cup in 1980.
The second leg will take place on October 19 in Lubumbashi.
