Businessman Arraigned For Issuing Dud Cheque For Rent

Daniel, 40 was on Monday arraigned by the police in a Grade two area court in Kado, Abuja for allegedly issuing a N670,000 dud cheque to his landlord.
Daniel was arraigned on a one-court charge of cheating and the police prosecutor, Mr Salihu Mohamed, told the court that one John Akor of House 14, 34 crescent off 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa Estate Abuja reported the case to the Gwarimpa police station.
Prosecutor Mohammel explained that the complainant had on the 5th of May 2013 given out a room for rent for one year to the accused .
Furthermore, the police prosecutor said that the accused, on June 6th, issued a Zenith Bank post-dated cheque of N670,000 to the land lord knowing fully that he did not have that amount in his accout.
Mohammed said that when the complainant went to cash the cheque on the due date, the bank turned him down, saying there was insufficient cash in the account.
Police prosecutor Mohammed also stated that the offence contravened section 322 of the penal code.
The accused however, had pleaded not guilty to the offence.
