Bayelsa State Commissioner of Sports Development, Chief Mietema Obordor, has said that expelling miscreants and hoodlums from the Samson Siasia Sports Complex would be a continuos exercise as way to attract decent people to come to watch sports events.

Chief Obordor said that on assumption of duty as commissioner, he discovered, most people shun the stadium because of the fear of being molested by hoodlums.

“But as I speak to you now, the situation has changed, we have chased those miscreants away, and the rehabilitation of the entire sports complex is almost completed”

Chief Obordor who spoke to sports journalists during a courtesy call in his office, in Yenagoa, said the swimming pool is been restructured to meet international standard, while  the hostels will also be given a facelift.

He said that in order to ensure maintenance culture in the Sports Complex, a Facility Maintenance Management has been put in place to ensure that every facility, even the toilet, was made functional.

According to him, three more mini stadia would be built, one in each senatorial district of the state as way of encouraging local sporting activities and also to decongest the Siasia Stadium.

The stadia would be sited in Ogbolomabiri, Nembe for East, Biogbolo for Central and Sagbama? for west, he disclosed.

Promising to carry sports writers along in all sporting programmes of the Ministry, Chief Obordor, said both floodlight, and electronic score board will soon be fixed at the Sanson Siasia Stadium,? while the issue of press gallery would also be looked into. He pleaded with the journalists to show understanding by projecting the activities of his ministry.

Earlier, the chairman of SWAN in the state, Mr Loveday Herbert had outlined some of the problems hindering sports development in the state and pleaded with the Commissioner to look into them.

Mr Herbert who commended the State Government for the establishment of both Football and Sports Academy, however, pointed out that unless professionals were appointed to head strategic positions, the efforts would be in vain.

He also. Suggested the upgrading of Siasia Stadium to  international standard by providing electronic scoreboard, floodlights and other facilities that are very befitting, pointing that out that the press gallery was nothing to write home about having been taken over by hoodlums.
