The Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies last Thursday canvassed the creation of state police to check the vandalism of PHCN facilities.

The Secretary-General of the association,  Mr Abiodun Ogunsegha, told newsmen in Lagos that PHCN facilities would be better protected if put under the supervision of??state police.

Ogunsegha said that vandalism of power plants and transformers had “rubbished” government’s investment in the sector and stalled improvement in power supply.

According to him, state police will tackle the act of vandalism because the men are familiar with the terrain of the state.

?”It is time to try state police because of the inability to arrest the trend.

“The problems we are facing as a result of theft of equipment are beyond what the Nigerian Police can solve.

“The recent success recorded by Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno State was through the assistance of the so call Youth Volunteers known as Civilian JTF.

“We should not only think that state government will hijack the state police, but there will be greater advantages if created,” he said.

He said that the creation of state police would reduce the security challenges being faced by the?government.
