The Patriotic women
of Asalga (PAWA) in the Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State say notwithstanding the political violence which claimed two lives in the area, they would not waiver in their support for Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree in their effort to restore peace in Rivers State.
Briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, the women, through their coordinator, Mrs Ibiba Tariah, described the violence as barbaric, noting that at a time when the State Governor was doing so much to ensure peace and stability in the state, some people were bent on thwarting government’s peace efforts.
They urged security agencies in the state to beef up security in the community and apprehend the culprits.
The women commended the local government chairman, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree for his effort in restoring peace to the community and urged those who fled the area in the wake of the crisis to return home.
Also speaking, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) women leader in the local government area, Hon. Lolly-Tariah Soton-Ibi said that the people of the local government would continue to support Governor Amaechi and their son, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Dan Amachree as the two leaders meant well for the people.
She urged political jobbers and others they described as trouble makers to keep off ASALGA in their own interest.
The PDP women leader also commended the council chairman for his peacemaking efforts.
