The Chief of Army staff
(COAS), Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika, has stressed the need for prudent management of public funds in government-owned organisations by heads of such establishments.
The Army boss said this recently, while commissioning the newly refurbished ultra modern world class Senior Officers Mess of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu,
According to him, financial prudence remains the only way to achieve meaningful feat in any establishment, be it in a developed or developing nations of the world.
He, commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Adebayo Olaniyi, for the prudent management of funds meant for refurbishing the Officers Mess which he expressed satisfaction that it “meets international standard”.
Major – General Ihejirika, said he was elated with quality of the mess which is fully equipped with sophisticated furniture and electronic gadgets.
He explained that his administration decided to embark on aggressive infrastructural development since he took over the mantle of leadership, because he inherited a decay and sorry state of infrastructure in the Army on assumption of office.
The COAS attributed the success story recorded so far by his administration to the overwhelming support and encouragement his administration had been receiving from president Goodluck Jonathan.
All programmes initiated by the Army, he went on, are designed with a view to falling in-line with president Jonathan’s transformation agenda, describing himself as the most fortunate COAS the nation has ever produced.
Also in his brief remarks, the GOC 82 Division, Major – General Olaniyi, described the Army chief as a visionary leader and  thanked him for his support and encouragement towards realisation of the project.
He assured that the Division would continue to promote the COAS vision aimed at taking the Nigerian Army to greater heights.
