Accommodation Seekers Lose N1.3m To Security Guard, Others

Five persons seeking accommodation in Port Harcourt may have lost about N1.3million to a security guard and his accomplices on the pretext of securing accommodation for them.
The Tide gathered that the security guard, Elias Kushai and others currently at large allegedly conspired and defrauded these accommodation seekers of the said amount between December 2012 and July 2013.
A source close to real estate practitioner in Port Harcourt disclosed to our reporter that the incident happened in an undisclosed compound within the Rumuodara axis of Port Harcourt.
The source disclosed also that the said Elias and his accomplices presented themselves as landlord, caretaker and agents of a property at the said Rumuodara area in order to deceive their victims.
According to him, the said security guard collected the sum of N150,000 from one Nkem Chime, N220,000 from One Evelyn Ogar, N350,000 from Cynthia, N220,000 from Onyekachukwu and the sum of N380,000 from Valerie Esosa.
The said sums he said, totalled about N1,320,000 and was paid as rent for five apartments for one year only by the five ladies.
He said, hardly had the ladies occupied the house for one month, than the estate valuer to the bonafide owner of the property discovered such game and issued a quit notice through their lawyer.
It was gathered that the suspects will be prosecuted according to law, as section 312 provides that a person who obtains under false pretences is guilty of a felony and liable to imprisonment for 15 years.
