The President, Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), Mr Bayo Banjo, recently  urged the Federal Government to renew its commitment toward empowering youths through latest Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills.

Banjo told newsmen in Lagos that this would make the country to be a digital and knowledge-based economy by 2015.

He said that many Nigerian youths were unable to compete with their counterparts in the developed world due to lack of appropriate ICT skills.

Banjo said that empowering them would make the country to participate gainfully in the unfolding knowledge of the economy through ICT.

“Investing in youths that are interested in ICT will yield more dividends to the country in the area of ICT.

“Nigerian youths are blessed with talents, but we need to help them to discover their talents through training and empowerment,’’ he said.

Banjo said that Vision 20-20-20 could only be realised through accelerated efforts to build and unlock the innovative capabilities of the youth.

He said the deployment of modern ICT infrastructure would harness the potential of young and intelligent minds in the nation’s institutions.
