Weightlifting : Aduche Welcomes Postponement Of Youth Championship
Coach of Rivers State
Weightlifting Association, Ojadi Aduche has said that the recent postponement of the planned maiden youth championship tagged “1st Youth Sports Festival” is a blessing in disguise for the state and a good opportunity for the state’s athletes to prepare well for the meet.
Coach Aduche stated this at the weekend during an interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt.
According to him, presently the state lacks youth lifters that can compete with their counterparts in other parts of the country, saying that the association could only boast of three female lifters right now and five others who have not been too committed to their training lately.
“The three female lifters are Bright Otu Brown, that was discovered during the 15th National School Sports Festival, Peace Sunday and Chikordi Nnamani.
The five others were also discovered from the schools sports fiesta, but, have not been taking their training seriously.
“The coaches would use the postponement to work out something good, we would ensure that the youth athletes on ground are well groomed and fit for the task ahead”, the head coach said.
It would be recalled that Chikordi Nnamani and Peace Sunday participated at the just-concluded Junior/Senior youth champions held in Uyo, Akwa/Ibom State.
Meanwhile, the new date for the youth sports championship scheduled to hold in Abuja is from 5th to 15th December, this year.
The championship is expected to witness other sports such as Taekwando, wrestling, boxing, and others.
