Special Cassava Stem Excites CDC Boss
The Chairman, Community Development Committee of Aminigboko, in the Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr. Chukwudi Georgewill, has commended the Rivers State government for providing a special stem of cassava for farmers in the state.
Mr.Georgewill who spoke to our correspondent over the weekend at his country home said the variety matures within six months of being planted.
He called on farmers in the area to take advantage of the special stem as according to him if well planned as according to him if well planned, farmers can plant twice in the year.
“The specie has afforded farmers the opportunity to plant 2 times in the year after first harvest” he said.
He further adviced farmers in the area to be on the guard even as he urged them to disregard rumours that there would be no flooding this year.
“It was better to be on the guard than being complacent” he said.
While calling on farmers in the area to come together and form co-operatives, he further urged the state government not to relent in making agricultures in the state a business venture among the youths.
He further gave kudos to the State government on pro-active steps it has taken so far in preparation of the 2013 flood.
