Sanitation Marshalls Canvass More Water Channels In PH

The Rivers State Government has been urged to create more channels and drainages to forestall flooding in Port Harcourt and its environs.

The coordinator, Rivers State Sanitation Marshalls, Prince Sodin Akiagba made the appeal in an interview with The Tide shortly after the months environmental sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt.

Prince Akiagbu also called for the establishment of rehabilitation centres for road people, especially those in flood ravaged areas.

According to him, communities in the Orashi region needs the support of government in view of devastating effects of last years flooding in the area.

Prince Akiagba particularly said that flood prone communities in Orashi region and other parts of the state need to be provided with amenities such as toilet facilities potable water, health institutions and electricity.

He also recommended the dredging of the Orashi River and other rivers to forestall the impending flooding in the areas.

On the sanitation exercise the coordinator said more sensitisations are needed to ensure full compliance at every sanitation exercise.

Prince Akiagba, also condemned the dumping of refuse into gutters, warning that such a habit should be discarded as it could result to flooding.
