RVHA Condemns Expulsion Of Rivers Exco Members
The 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi have condemned the purported expulsion of 14 state Commissioners from the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the state.
The lawmakers made their position public in a statement signed and made available to newsmen last Wednesday in Port Harcourt.
While describing the affected commissioners as reputable technocrats, the lawmakers said the action of the Felix Obuah-led PDP smacked of desperation for power, and was also unconstitutional.
‘’They don’t have any idea of the Constitution or membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, hence, their unguided pronouncements. We call on all our constituents to disregard their pronouncements and go about their lawful duties,’’ the lawmakers said in the statement.
According to them, the reasons, methodology and procedures that led to the pronouncements were not only unconstitutional by reasons of Article 21(4)(5)(6) of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party but also a continuation of the undue political rascality and abject impunity that are detrimental and injurious to the character of the party and the nation’s democracy
“We are worried that the undemocratic and reckless manner the Obuah-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party threatens not only the on-going reconciliation efforts but further deepens the factionalisation, fragmentation and threatens the survival of the party,’’ they said.
They, therefore, called on their supporters and constituents to be calm and remain loyal to the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi’s administration, saying, “we are not distracted by the wanton vituperations of the derisive few”.
