The Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority, (RSESA) says its resolve on the bagging of refuse in the state was paramount on its drive for a clean environment.
The Sole Administrator of the authority, Mr Ade Adeogun  stated this to newsmen while monitoring last Saturday’s sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt.
The sanitation boss who spoke through the authority’s spokesperson, Mr Olalekan Ige said, “in terms of bagging, I don’t think it is an issue.
“We want residents all along to bag their refuse because we have receptacles which the authority and service provides to do door to door collection of refuse”, he said.
He further explained that at Rumuibekwe, Education bus stop and Diobu areas amongst others , the authority has observed with dismay the unholy placing of waste at the centre of the road.
He said the authority would from Monday begin the enforcement of compliance with proper placement of waste even as he said “it was unimaginable” that residents do not comply with bringing out their refuse between the stipulated time of 5pm to 6am daily.
On the movement of vehicles on sanitation days Mr Ige said it was a challenge that the authority was looking at with a view to addressing the anomaly.
He hinted that more of the security agencies would be involved to effect compliance of motorists and commuters.
While decrying the practice whereby some uniformed men board vehicles on sanitation days to create passage for motorists and passengers he said such practices would be taken up with the relevant authorities of such unformed men.
Seventy defaulters were arrested by the authority during last Saturday exercise.
