Rivers Moves To Cut Healthcare Cost …As RSSDA Recounts Scholarship Students’ Feat

The Rivers State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Dr Nnabuihe Imegwu has reiterated the determination of the current administration in the state to reduce the cost of health care delivery across all public health facilities in the State, stressing that “the forum resolved that government is bent on providing health care to citizens of the state at affordable cost.” He said that “government is trying to put in place an ongoing process of having to regularly review practice, care delivery and cost in such a manner that no stakeholder is shortchanged”.
Dr Imegwu made this known at the 6th Inter Governmental Forum meeting held in Port Harcourt, recently.
He further disclosed that the lingering grievances of primary health care workers in the local government areas who had embarked on a warning strike a week ago, which was later called off after the intervention of the governor, were also deliberated upon. He said that government was making frantic efforts at resolving the crisis.
Earlier, the story of thirteen beneficiaries of the Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s Special Overseas Scholarship Programme (GSOSP) who recently made Rivers State and indeed, Nigeria proud when they topped the chart by coming out tops in different universities in the United Kingdom, caused laud applause.
“We had cheering reports of the incredible academic achievements of students and scholars under the Governor’s Special Overseas Scholarship Programme,” the Executive Director, Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency, Dr Noble Pepple had emphasized, He said that the 13 students were drawn from Nottingham-Trent, University of Liverpool and University of Salford, Manchester.
“Blazing the trail is Betty Alali Odema, a physically-challenged student from Nottingham-Trent University, who won the Vice Chancellor’s Overall Best Graduating Student, graduating with a second class upper in International Relations. “Three other physically-challenged students, Daniel Nlemogu, who made 1st class in Law, Esther Wahu, 2nd class upper division in Accounting and Finance, and Godstime Ogele, 2nd class upper division in Law, also graduated from the same institution.
“Also from Nottingham-Trent are three others, Okwuchi Mac-Ajealu, Accounting and Finance, Endurance Stephen, Law, Emmanuel Ogolo, Law, all graduated with 2nd class upper division.
“From Salford University are Olube Obe and Echikwa Ideozu, who made 1st class in Biomedical Sciences while Gospel Nwikue, Queen Visan, Modelyn LongJohn and Sodienye Halliday, also made distinction from University of Liverpool, Manchester.
Mr. Pepple observed that the performance of these students justifies Governor Amaechi’s investment in the education sector, pointing out that this would further encourage youths of the State to take advantage of the opportunities the current administration has availed them.
