Rivers Crisis: Commission Promises Fair Hearing

The Chairman of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the crisis that rocked the Rivers State House of Assembly on 9

th and 10th July, 2013, Justice Biobele A. Georgewill has reiterated the determination of his committee to give fair hearing to all the parties involved in the crisis.

Justice Georgewill disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in his office shortly after the inaugural public sitting of the commission held at High Court Complex, Port Harcourt, Monday.

He averred that the commission was an independent one devoid of any forms of pressure from any quarters and assured that no interest parties would be short change during the commission’s sittings.

According to him, the commission was ready to travel to London to visit the wounded state lawmaker as a way to show their fairness and unbiasness in their responsibility.

“We are striving to get the root of the matter, we go to London to see the injured person, those not available we will make efforts to see them. Everybody, will be heard”, he stated.

The Chairman of the Commission assured that nobody who would respond to the invitation by the Commission would be arrested, adding that inauguration of the Commission would give the ample opportunity for people to express themselves on the matter.

Justice Georgewill opined that the Commission business ass to bring truth in the crisis that would restore peace to the state and not to send anybody to prison.

He posited that the Commission is cardinal as it is aimed at arriving at the fundamental facts to the crises and assured that the Committee would not renege in their pledged to the oath of office they have sworn.
