Reactions Greet Planned Sachet Water Ban

The planned ban by the
Federal government on sachet water production in 2014, has received negative reaction from a cross section of Nigerians across the country.
Recently the Minister of Environment, Mrs Hadiza Mailafia  while speaking to journalists in Abuja on the environmental hazards posed by empty water sachets  due to their non biodegradable nature said that the federal govenment was planning to improve a ban on it.
In his reaction, Mr Ikechukwu Dik, a computer Science student of the University of Port Harcourt, said that the environment hazard posed by used sachet water should not override the interest of the common man.
According to him, sachet water was consumed and sold by the common people in the society and as such, should not be stopped because many people would be affected economically.
For Mr Rogers S, before the government stops the production of the product, an alternative measure should be taken.
Ubong Akpan, a farmer , who hails from Cross Rivers State said the government should explore ways of dealing with the management of the used satchet instead of closing down the factories.
He said it was a big business and if there was no alternative,  the dependency ratio would be high.
A Port Harcourt based Journalist, Miss Peace Ikonwa blamed the government for its inability to provide water for the people.
She described satchet water business as the easiest way, for the common man even as she called for restraint.
