Owners of business places in and around Port Harcourt have been told to provide packing spaces for their numerous customers or risk their vehicles being impounded by the Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV).

The Chief Traffic Controller TIMARIV, Mr Confidence Eke gave the warning in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently.

Mr Eke said the action is to ameliorate traffic gridlocks mostly experience in our major roads due to indiscriminate parking at business places.

He reiterated that since their major responsibility was to control traffic and enforce state laws relating to the safe use of vehicles on the road, deter street trading on the roads as well as conduct highly visible day and night traffic patrols to enforce traffic rules and regulations and clear the highway of obstruction, they would stop at nothing in ensuring that they carried out the functions legitimately without fear or favour.

The Chief Traffic Controller, therefore, advised all owners of business premises including banks, schools, event centres, supermarkets among others to take precautionary measures or face the wrath of the authority.

Mr Eke, who also enjoined motorists especially commercial drivers against parking at intersections or junctions to pick or drop passengers to stop forthwith, as the authority has step up its activities to deal with anyone caught in the act.

He used the forum to warn drivers not to drive against traffic or bribe TIMARIV officials when caught for traffic offence, saying that the authority would no long tolerate such behavior.

TIMARIV is working to ensure safety and free flow of traffic on our roads and I enjoined all drivers to obey traffic on our roads, he opined.
