Politician Seeks $10m Loan For Guber Race In Rivers
To actualise his political ambition of becoming the next governor of Rivers State, come 2015, a prominent Abuja-based politician is said to be seeking the sum of $10million from a famous businessman to logically prosecute the campaign.
The Tide gathered that the politician, in company of some politicians and aides from Rivers State, had approached an oil magnet in Abuja to loan the group the sum of $10million with the promise of refunding the money when they have taken over power in Rivers State.
Sources said that the Abuja-based businessman is the owner of a petroleum tank farm along Port Harcourt in Rivers State and hails from Delta State.
The Tide further learnt that the 2015 governorship campaign posters of the politician have already flooded the streets of Port Harcourt, with the hope to receive the said loan, which also confirmed speculations that despite the continued denials, the politician may be nursing the ambition to succeed Governor Chibuike Amaechi in 2015.
Sources alleged that the politician had previously received some undisclosed amount of money from the same source to ensure that Governor Chibuike Amaechi was hurriedly impeached without due process, which had failed.
But The Tide gathered that other members of the opposition are not happy with the turn of events in the camp following the overwhelming influence of the politician, who has been accused of hijacking the entire party structure and is now running the political programme of the party in the state.
Sources hinted The Tide that the politician is currently using his political group to stamp his authority and influence in the 23 local government areas with the intention to use the group in the 2015 state congress of the popular party.
This, however, corroborated the alarm raised by Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, that those opposing Governor Chibuike Amaechi were doing so to steal the resources of the state.
Abe, who spoke recently in Port Harcourt, warned Rivers indigenes to resist any attempt by some greedy politicians to put Rivers State into debt.
Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Leyii Kwanee, cautioned those opposed to Governor Amaechi to channel their resources to build industries which, will in turn, employ Rivers people, and reduce the unemployment rate in the state.
Kwanee, who was addressing some youths in Port Harcourt, informed them that the present administration has employed about 13,000 Rivers sons and daughters as teachers, a feat no administration had achieved in the last 30 years, and urged them to continue to support the administration.
But when contacted, an aide of the politician, who belongs to the Felix Obuah-led faction of the state PDP, denied that the politician was sourcing for loan to prosecute his election campaign, adding that he had not declared any intention for the Governorship race or any other public office in the state.
The aide said that the posters of the politician in Port Harcourt streets and other locations in the state were the handiwork of his boss’ political enemies.
