Police Arraigns Electrician Over Alleged Conspiracy, Cheating
The police last Wednesday arraigned an electrician, Adams Yakubu, 36, in a Grade 1 Area Court, Mararaba in Nasarawa State for alleged criminal conspiracy and cheating.
The police prosecutor, Cpl. Inuwa Maigida, told the court that Awuhe Aondongu of 23 Emeka Oloye St., Mararaba, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Mararaba, on July 21.
He told the court that on July 17, Yakubu and one Halleluya Johnson, now at large, conspired and collected N450,000 from Aondongu with a promise to help him buy a Volkswagen Sharan Car, 2001 model.
Maigida alleged that the accused converted the money to his personal uses and did not buy the said car.
The prosecutor said that the accused was arrested in Mararaba after being in hiding for more than two months.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, Yakubu is liable to 10 years imprisonment or an option to pay a fine.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding judge, Mr Albert Maga, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N150,000 and two sureties in like sum.
Maga ordered that one of the sureties must be a traditional title-holder with landed property and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He adjourned the case to August 15 for further hearing.
