Plateau Warns Contractors Against Use Of Sub-Standard Materials
The Plateau State Government last Thursday warned contractors handling road projects in the state against using sub-standard materials.
The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Solomon Maren, gave the warning in Langtang when he inspected on-going projects in the Southern Senatorial Zone of the state.
“The state government is determined to provide quality and lasting structures that will stand the test of time. That is why we are spending large amount of money to ensure quality in the projects.”
He warned that any contractor who was not ready to abide by work specifications should be ready to back off or have his contract revoked.
“This is part of the reasons why we are on this assessment so we can ascertain the level of work as well as the quality of materials the contractors are using.”
Maren said that the onus lied with government officials and the ministry to ensure that contractors delivered quality projects to the people of Plateau, adding that history and posterity would not forgive them if they failed.
“This administration has come as a saving grace to the people of Plateau, and the leader of this redemption government will never compromise quality no matter what it takes,” he said.
Mr Maren also challenged the contractors to ensure speed and accuracy in their project execution, adding that the government was determined to complete all on-going projects before 2015.
He said that a timely completion of projects would go a long way to ameliorate the sufferings of the people, and boost the status of the contractors.
Mr Maren re-stated the government’s commitment to job creation and capacity building for the people, and urged the contractors to engage youths in their domains.
