Onu Emerges APC Leader In Ebonyi
Former National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Dr Ogbonnaya Onu,has emerged leader of the newly-registered All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State.
A former member of the House of Representatives and a chieftain of the party in Ebonyi, Chief Innocent Ugo-Chima, made the announcement on Sunday in Abakaliki, after the inaugural meeting of the APC.
Ugo-Chima said that Onu was chosen because of his role in the merger process that saw the former Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), ANPP and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) forming the new party.
“His great contributions to the enhancement of democracy in the country and his fatherly disposition to the opposition in Ebonyi also made us choose him as our leader. “The party’s acting Deputy Financial Secretary, Chief Jacob Chukwu, would also serve as our deputy leader, due to his involvement in the party’s affairs at the national level,” Ugo-Chima stated.
According to him, the party will in the coming days unfold its programmes and announce its position on allotment of leadership positions in the forthcoming council polls, among others.
“We have individuals of impeccable character who will pool their resources to ensure that the PDP becomes the opposition in 2015,” he said.
Mrs Frances Mgbada, a former gubernatorial aspirant in the state, said that all legal and other contending issues, involving the merging parties, would not be transferred to the APC.
