Nursing, Pregnant Mothers Get Breast Feeding Kits

The Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) has donated breast feeding  kits to thousands of pregnant and nursing mothers in Port Harcourt and environs.

The Executive Director of the agency, Mr. Noble Pepple who spoke to newsmen at the international breast feeding week organized by the agency in conjunction with the  Ministry of Women Affairs in Port Harcourt, said that the gesture was part of the awareness campaign by the agency on the importance of breast feeding in the society.

Pepple who spoke through the General Manager, Human Resources and Administration, Mr. Tonye Sukkbo said that the programme was part of the intervention process by the agency to improve the lot of Rivers people.

He said that the agency has intervened in areas of overseas scholarship which has seed thousands of Rivers people studying overseas while others are undergoing skill acquisition training within and outside the country.

Pepple enjoined mothers to make the best use of the kits take and take breast feeding seriously.

Also speaking the Chief Nursing Officer, Rumuolumeni Health Centre, Mrs. Irene David West said that breast milk as important for children as it makes them not only to grow healthy, but intelligent.

David West also listed other benefits to include enhancing relationship between mother and child as well as enhances the health of the family and the nation.

Also speaking, Mrs. Ailda Cookey Gam who spoke on support system for breast feeding mothers, urged husbands to assist their wives in breast feeding of their children.

She also urged pregnant women to make the best use of health facilities across the state by registering for antenatal care early.

Earlier, the manager Business Development and job creation of RSSDA Mrs. Blessing Daniel Kalio said that the agency as not relenting in its effort to improve the lives of Rivers people.

Daniel Kalio said that the situation was inline with the commitment by the state government to improving the living condition of Rivers people.

She listed some advantages of breast feeding to include reduction in infant mortality, improving the economy of the family nd the society at large and urged mothers to put what they have learnt to practice.
