NOTAP Boss Cautions FG On Multiple Biometric Collection
The Federal Government has been cautioned over its multiple biometric Data Collection method in the country instead of a central data collecting centre that will serve all purposes.
The Director-General, Chief Executive Officer, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) in the Federal Ministry of Science and technology, Dr. Umar Bindir, said this while delivering a paper titled “Opportunities and Challenges of Entrepreneurs on Sustainable Refinery and Petrochemical products” at the 2nd International Conference on Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.
He said that the issue of taking one’s finger print at any point of any federal assignment, was not the best thing, saying a central data collecting point is more advisable. Bindir, said that the Bureau for Statistics should be allowed to handle such cases which, according to him, can also save time.
He pointed out that the issue of thumbs printing before opening a new account or during voters registration exercise was not necessary.
The 5th lead speaker at the event, also decried the use of manual methods in all sectors of the economy, which he said, was part of the reasons for low production.
Bindir further challenged the Nigeria Government to build a satellite that can monitor the activities going on in the country and not those that would only monitor or check the activities in other countries.
He reasoned that a formidable satellite station in the country would have been used to monitor the activities of insurgents in the country, thereby, reducing crime rate. “Why can’t the Nigeria Government build a satellite that can monitor the activities in our country than those that can only monitor the activities of other countries, it won’t help us”, he opined. Others also expressed hope that World-class ICT centre in all sectors of the economy would not only boost production but will also create employment opportunities.
