Rumuokani, an in-depth movie on Ikwerre cultural heritage is now in the market. The movie is produced by a seasoned Port Harcourt-based film maker, Mr. Bobby Ogoloma and directed by Mr. Ukah.
The movie which also features wrestling competition is centered on sale of land. Synopsis: Some group of elders decided to sell land to a Whiteman to get his money which bears a queen’s head, but one of the chiefs of the community opposed the idea and the elders murdered him to enable them achieve their aim.
Unfortunately, they did not succeed because of the controversies that ensued as a result of the killing of the chief. The movie was shot at Igbo-Etche, Ovogo and Elibrada sand field in Emohua Local Government Area (EMOLGA), Rivers State.
Speaking on the movie, Elder Morrison Kalio Okike, who played the role of an Elder in the movie, said ‘Rumuokani’ is an in-depth movie because the producer went deep into the Ikwerre culture right from the ancient days to show the world the cultural heritage of the Ikwerre man, what we have and what we can do with them.
The Akabuka, ONELGA-born actor who has featured in various Nollywood movies such as ‘Crime Forces,’ ‘Snake ladies’etc has also produced a film titled ‘Teens Generation’ which talks about teenagers in the country. He noted that acting in Nigeria is very tasking, but rewarding.
He disclosed that apart from ‘Rumuokani’ there are other Ikwerre movies in the market such as African Wrestling in Ikwerre kingdom which was shot at Ovogo one of the communities in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The seasoned actor noted that Rivers State parades the best actors and actresses in Nollywood as well as producers and directors, but we lack sponsorship which has made it difficult to compete favourably with their counterparts in Asaba and Enugu. He therefore appealed to the State Government and the private sector to come to their aid.
