Kogi Govt Commences Work On SURE-P Projects
The Kogi Deputy Governor Mr Yomi Awoniyi, said that the state government had commenced work on some projects valued at N2 billion, under the Subsidy Reinvestment & Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Gov., Mr Michael Abu, at the end of the Kogi SURE-P Committee meeting.
The statement quoted the deputy governor as saying that the State’s SURE-P Committee would soon embark on an inspection of the projects.
It said that the committee would inspect 327 projects in the first phase of the ongoing SURE-P projects across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
The statement said that the inspection of the local government areas by the committee was meant to ensure the judicious use of SURE-P funds already released to the councils.
It said that the state government had approved the renovation of selected educational institutions across the state, as well as the rehabilitation and equipping of a general hospital each in all the local governments.
The statement also said that the state government and the SURE-P Committee would, in a few weeks, resuscitate the state transport corporation by purchasing buses for inter and intra-city transport services.
It said that the state government was also planning to build designated bus stops across the state, for the use of the transport corporation.
The statement added that the present administration was concerned about probity and accountability, as well as ensuring that funds meant for the projects were used essentially for the purposes intended.
