Kidnap: Nurses Block Ikwerre Road
Traffic was brought to a halt as students of Rivers State School of Nursing yesterday blocked the popular Ikwerre road at Mile 4 axis of Port Harcourt with their school bus over the abduction of one of their senior lecturers Mrs. Daminabo Paul Beauty.
Mrs. Daminabo Paul Beauty, a senior lecturer with School of Nursing, Department of Family Health was abducted on Sunday evening by unidentified gunmen on her way to the campus.
The students who were not affected by the ongoing Academic Staff Union of University ( ASUU) strike called on the Commissioner of police and Rivers State government to do something fast to ensure that the victim regains her freedom or risks total shutdown of the campus.
The students noted that insecurity at the campus has became alarming which they alleged has made their female students to fall prey to rapists
President, Student Union Government (SUG) of Rivers State School of Nursing, Comrade Nwaorgu Anayochi, said the protest will continue until something is done to release the victim.
He said the protest became necessary when the students discovered that nothing has been done at the ministry level coupled with the slow pace of response by the police to fish out the culprits or ensure that the victim regains freedom.
Comrade Nwaorgu said: “Our lecturer has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen, and since yesterday we are yet to receive positive response of her whereabouts’ we are member of her constituency. ?We don’t need to involve her family member before we could fight for her.
? “There is need to address the problem of insecurity in our school, before now it was the issue of raping our female students, now it is kidnapping, the government must take a proactive step in addressing this challenge.”
When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, ?said she is yet to be briefed on the details of the abduction, but promised to get back to the reporter.
