Keshi Proud Of Eagles Performance In S’Africa

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi was beaming after his wards extended Nigeria’s dominance over South Africa with a 2-0 win on Wednesday night.

A brace from former junior international Uche Nwofor in only his second appearance, over three years after his first, sealed the win, and Keshi was understandably delighted.

“With due respect, Bafana Bafana are a good side. A lot of potential in the team. But we wanted to do something and make our nation proud and make ourselves proud and I’m proud of the players, mostly in the second half, when we did very well,” he said.

Keshi surprised many with his starting line-up, leaving the likes of Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa and Brown Ideye on the bench, but he explained that he wanted to look over some new players.

“I have some new players that I haven’t seen, and I wanted to give them the opportunity of Africa football and I’m proud they did well.”

Nigeria’s next test is a World Cup qualifier against Malawi in September.

Keshi said the tie  was a good test. “This will keep us in shape for the game against Malawi in 3 weeks.”
