The Imo State
Government has expressed its determination to complete the ongoing electricity project at Agwa in Oguta Local Government Area.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Utilities, Mr Callistus Ekenze, announced the plan in Oguta, Imo recently when he inspected the project.
He said the government had shown keen interest to complete the project following Governor Rochas Okorocha’s promise to develop the 27 local governments in the state.
According to him, if the project is completed, it will go a long way to promote socio-economic activities in the area.
He regretted that some of the government’s materials meant for the project were being vandalised by hoodlums.
He stressed the need for traditional rulers in the area to act as watchdogs by securing government property in their areas.
“The host community must mount surveillance on a daily basis to make sure that the government’s property is secure,” he said.
He also urged community leaders to always guarantee the security of the engineers working in their areas, saying that youths should be engaged to provide security for projects.
Responding, the traditional ruler said the community was ready to secure government’s property and its workers.
Asor thanked the governor for initiating the project in his community, pointing out that lack of power supply in the area had caused the people untold hardship.
He said anybody caught in the act of vandalism would be reported to the appropriate quarters.
