How Rivers Dominates South-South In Nollywood

The South-South region of Nigeria comprises Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers States. The region, apart from contributing substantially to the nation’s wealth through the large deposite of oil and gas, the region has also produced some of Nigeria’s outstanding Nollywood Stars of which Rivers State takes the lead.

Some of the brightest actresses in Nollywood who hail from the South-South region include:

* Ibinabo Feberesima: This Rivers State-born Ex-beauty Queen and the organiser of Miss Earth Beauty Pageant has contributed immensely to the growth of Nollywood by playing leading roles in several movies and beauty pageants. She was elected the first female presidnet of the Actors Guild of Nigeria in November last year.

* Tonto Dike:

This is another Rivers State-born actress who has become a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian film indsutry. Despite her chains of controversies in Nollywood and other social circles she remains one of the most sought after role interpreters in the make belief indsutry as both producers and directors approach her for various movie roles. Since she came to Nollywood in 2005 she has featured in over 100 movies both in Nollywood and Gollywood of Ghana.

* Monalisa Chinda:

This star actress and Ex-Glo ambassador also plays leading roles in movies, this fair complexioned screen diva from the Ikwerre Extraction of Rivers State, has also featured in many Nollywood Movies and she enjoys wild acceptance in the industry which has brought her fame and wealth.

* Hilda Dokubo:

Though absent from the movie industry for now due to her amnesty programmes, she is still relevant in the Nigerian  movie clan. The Rivers State-born actress whose career is highly successful, chooses sensible roles which has made her one of the most respected actresses in the industry. Her calm demeanour has endeared her to millions of fans.

*Dakore Egbuson:

This Bayelsa State-born actress started acting in 1998 in a soap called “Inheritance,” a TV Soap Opera, but her first movie role was “Silent Tears, ” in 2002, she was a TV presenter before she was discovered by Emem Isong. She started as a lead role and ever since she has been able to sustain that. She can easily be identified by her dread locks.

* Shan George:

From Akwa Ibom State has acted in several sizzling roles in the home video industry, she is outspoken controversal and bright.

Liz Benson:

Also from Akwa-Ibom State is an icon of the movie indsutry, she is regarded as one of the motivators behind the emergence of today’s movie stars. Although she is now an Evangelsit, she still remains relevant in the movie industry.

* Kate Henshaw-Nuttai:

She is another South-South Amazon of the movie indsutry, since she was discovered in the nineties, she still remains relevant in today’s ever changing movie landscape having featured in countless movies as well as the Onga Ambassador.

* Obot Etuk:

This Akwa Ibom State-born actress is also a shinning star. Her personal love life has been chronicled, so much that every one seems to know her first hand. Her movie roles are just as controversial and she remains one of the shinning stars from the South-South region.

* Susan Patrick:

She burst into the movie industry with her role as Sakobi in the block buster movie she is today one of the hottest actresses in Nollywood and one of the highest paid actresses in the industry.
